Carers Week 5 - 11 June 2023

Recognising and supporting carers in the community?

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.??

This year for Carers Week, we want communities across the UK to come together to recognise the huge contribution unpaid carers make.?

We know that Carers make an enormous contribution to our health and care system and to our society. Many people still don't think of themselves as carers. As a result, they don't identify as having caring responsibilities and seek out or access much-needed support to help them in their caring role. We want to recognise the selfless way that carers provide care and support to their friends and relatives by holding a number of events in Merton throughout the week.??

A number of organisations in Merton including Carers Support Merton, Merton Mencap, Alzheimer’s Society, SWLSTG Mental Health Trust and other partners are joining the Council to organise a number of events so we can recognise our carers and say thank you. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues carers face and what support is available in Merton.??

We want to? encourage everyone to think about a carer they might know, and what they can do to support them, be it personally or in the workplace or wider community.
